About Geo
In order to compete with the growing market of smaller sized import cars in the late 80s, GM introduced the Geo line. First debuting in 1989 in the United States and 1992 in Canada, Geo models were joint-manufactured by GM in association with Japanese manufacturers. For instance, the Geo Prizm was manufactured at the Geo/Toyota assembly plant in Fremont, CA. Other popular Geo models include the Spectrum, the sub-compact Metro, the sporty Storm, and the mini-SUV Tracker. Geo vehicles were relatively successful initially, but steadily declining interest in compact cars resulted in their discontinuation. The tracker was the last Geo vehicle in production, eventually being discontinued in 2004.
